What makes a good Claude AI alternative?

Claude AI is an app created by Anthropic that lets anyone interact with the advanced AI models — Claude 3 Opus, Sonnet, and Haiku. The app takes the prompts and then passes them directly to the AI model. It will then return the results back to the app so you can read them in chatbot style. While Claude can actually do a lot, there are many alternatives available in the market. I tested the apps on pretty strict criteria to find the best Claude alternatives.

  • Easy Access: There shouldn't be any technical requirements or advanced setup needed to use apps like Claude. For this reason, I looked for apps that are easy to use and offer many features.

  • Accuracy and Responsiveness: I looked for platforms and apps that could generate accurate information on a consistent basis.

  • Extra Features: Anything on the top of entering prompts and receiving an answer should be welcome, from searching the web to supporting multiple languages.

List of 6 best Claude AI alternatives

I've tested 20+ AIs like Claude. At the end of this testing, I was left with six standout Claude alternatives — each with its own strengths and weaknesses. Here, I'll explain them.

#1 ChatGPT

ChatGPT interface

ChatGPT is the original AI chatbot released by OpenAI. After its release in late 2022, it took the world by storm in 2023. It's pretty simple to use: just start a conversation by writing prompts, and ChatGPT will generate the output. While GPT-3.5 is impressive, GPT-4 is even more powerful and better. Even though ChatGPT sometimes shows factual errors with total confidence — what experts call hallucinations — it's still the industry leader for quite some time.

Pros

  • ChatGPT is a free-to-use AI tool that doesn't have any usage limitations.

  • You can do text-to-image prompting with DALL-E 3 — and, that too, directly in ChatGPT Plus.

  • You can add custom instructions to customize the chatbot even further.

Cons

  • ChatGPT cannot access the web.

  • Its data is limited up to August 2022, and it won't be able to provide information about events that happened later.

  • Sometimes, ChatGPT generates answers that are factually inaccurate.

Pricing

  • Free

  • ChatGPT Plus: $20 per month

  • ChatGPT Team: $25 per month

#2 Google Gemini

Google Gemini chatbot

Google's Bard is now Google Gemini — a family of AI models from Google that includes Gemini Nano, Gemini Pro, and Gemini Ultra. These three versions are multimodal, meaning they can understand and work with text, images, videos, audio, and code. Each Gemini model differs in how many parameters it has and how good it is at responding to complex queries.

Pros

  • You can have long conversations with Google Gemini.

  • It's pretty easy to use the Gemini inside other Google apps, like Docs and Gmail.

  • Gemini Advanced — the paid version — is designed for complex tasks.

Cons

  • Gemini might produce inaccurate images and biased text.

  • While it excels at reasoning and processing information, it lacks real-world experience.

  • It's still in the early days of development.

Pricing

  • Free

  • Gemini Advanced: $20 per month

#3 Poe by Quora

Poe by Quora chatbot

Poe acts as a kind of AI model aggregator that'll help you talk with millions of chatbots, including ChatGPT, GPT-4, DALL-E 3, and Claude 3 Opus. If you want to try the top models in the market, you can purchase a single-pack price of $20 per month. Here's one thing: there will be a message limit for the highest-quality models, but it's still much better than subscribing to individual AI chatbots.

Pros

  • The sleek interface helps you seamlessly switch between AI chatbots.

  • You can also monetize Poe by setting up your creator account.

  • It's free to try Poe and interact with many popular chatbots.

Cons

  • It's still in beta and may have some errors.

  • Poe chatbots may not be able to handle all types of requests or questions.

  • It might not give an accurate response, especially for complex topics.

Pricing

  • Free (though it is limited to 100 interactions)

  • Paid Plan: $20 per month or $200 per year

#4 HuggingChat

HuggingChat AI interface

HuggingChat is an open-source AI chatbot released by Hugging Face and a popular Claude AI alternative. It's something that can be compared with ChatGPT in terms of user experience and accepts instructions equally well. It's a great brainstorming toolkit but delivers a decent number of factual errors — so you need to work on your fact-checking skills.

Pros

  • HuggingChat is an ad-free, open-source chatbot.

  • You can use most of its features without registering.

  • It boasts impressive multilingual capabilities.

Cons

  • It sometimes stops generating the output in the middle.

  • It often struggles with simple reasoning questions.

  • You'll need a HuggingChat account after submitting 6 questions.

Pricing

  • Free

#5 Bing Chat

Bing Chat or Copilot by Microsoft

Before I start, it's worth noting that Microsoft is an investor in OpenAI — meaning ChatGPT and Bing Chat (or Copilot) are powered by OpenAI's model, GPT. Microsoft's Bing AI chatbot can help you chat, generate images, get short answers to complex questions, and compose content — all in one interface. Bing Chat is built into Microsoft Edge, so it's like an integrated and tailored way of searching for your answers.

Pros

  • Bing Chat can perform web searches — something that Claude cannot.

  • You can chat with the AI chatbot directly from the sidebar of the web browser.

  • It has an ‘Insights’ tab that will help you get more information about the page you're on.

Cons

  • With Bing Chat, there is no straightforward option to share the conversation.

  • Sometimes, you'll see ads in the results.

  • It's limited to 30 responses per conversation.

Pricing

  • Free

#6 YouChat

YouChat AI chatbot

The user interface of YouChat is reminiscent of a Google Search results page. The only difference is that there's a tab for AI Chat along with a traditional video, image, and news search tab. If you like the simplicity of the Claude AI interface, YouChat might feel a bit crowded — though it's useful for browsing a lot of information together and faster.

Pros

  • Unlike Claude AI, YouChat can help you get information about recent events.

  • It has an easy-to-use and user-friendly interface.

  • You can easily share the search history with others.

Cons

  • Like other AI models, YouChat sometimes displays outdated links and photos.

  • Many users have pointed out that YouChat hallucinates references.

Pricing

  • Free

FAQs

What is Claude AI?

Claude AI is Anthropic's chatbot that aims to be helpful, harmless, and honest. The responses of Claude are straightforward and flow naturally without any lengthy introductions and conclusions. It has an impressive context window length that helps the bot remember past conversations.

While ChatGPT (one of the popular AI chatbots) can remember up to 12,000 words, Claude AI takes this up to 75,000 words. There's a file and image upload feature, which makes the chatbot great at summarizing lengthy documents or understanding the image content.

Claude AI offers a free plan that's limited to 25 messages per day. If you want to unlock more, you can go ahead with the Claude Pro plan, which starts at $20 per month.

Which AI is similar to Claude?

There are many AI apps like Claude, including ChatGPT by OpenAI, Poe by Quora, and Google Gemini (formerly called Google Bard). The choice of the best Claude alternative will depend on what exactly you are looking for.

Is Claude better than ChatGPT?

Claude is better than ChatGPT if you are working with large documents. This is because Claude has a larger window context of up to 200,000 tokens (or 150,000 words) compared to GPT-4, which can handle only 32,000 tokens.

Which Claude AI alternative should you use?

If Claude AI isn't doing the trick and you want an AI chatbot that's tailor-made to your needs, try any Claude AI alternative from this list.
