Whenever you're in a meeting with team members or clients, you take notes — and immediately forget that they exist. Thankfully, there's a better way: AI meeting assistants can automate note-taking on video conferencing platforms like Zoom, Google Meet, or Microsoft Teams.

Fathom is a free AI meeting note-taking application that can replace the iconic duo of pen and paper. While Fathom AI works well, it has a low accuracy rate.  If you want something else, there are loads of great Fathom alternatives out there with strengths that might be more suited for your transcription needs.

So, I spent a few weeks testing all the best Fathom alternatives I could find — and these are my top 5 picks.

What is Fathom?

Fathom AI meeting assistant

Fathom is a decent AI meeting assistant that comes with a generous free version and lets you transcribe all your Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and Google Meet conversations. Once the ongoing meeting ends, you can even generate a transcript summary and share the complete information to the CRM of your choice or straight to any Slack channel.

This free-to-use tool transcribes meeting notes in 7 languages, including English, Spanish, German, Italian, and Portuguese. But there's no way to download or export the transcript or summary file. Plus, advanced features like Keyword Alerts, Just the Highlight, etc., come at a high price of $24 per user per month.

What makes a good Fathom alternative?

Fathom’s free version is great for beginners. For example, if you're unsure whether an AI meeting notetaker can help you improve productivity, then Fathom is good for a test ride. But once the testing ends, the need for a more advanced Fathom alternative arises.

In my opinion, these are the four features that the best Fathom AI alternatives need to have:

  • Affordability: I've focused on Fathom alternatives that come with a robust free forever plan, at least offer a free trial to test the AI tool, or their paid plans are pretty affordable.

  • Ease of Use: There are a lot of sophisticated Fathom alternatives out there. For this article, I focused on apps that have an easy-to-use UI and are accessible to both beginners and experts.

  • Integrations: Like any AI transcription tool, a Fathom alternative should offer important integrations with video conferencing platforms (Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, and Webex), Salesforce, and Notion.

  • Exporting and Sharing Options: If you want to share meeting notes with team members or clients, you'll probably need to save them as a Word or PDF file. The great Fathom alternatives go even further by providing collaboration tools and additional features.

List of 5 best Fathom alternatives

I've conducted a series of head-to-head tests comparing Fathom to other competitors to see how well they compete with each other. If you're looking for a free Fathom alternative, you're in luck: all these apps either have a completely free forever plan or offer a free trial.

Which Fathom alternative should you use?

AI transcription tools are the future — and they can help you maximize the overall productivity and reduce the workload. As I was researching Fathom alternatives, I paid attention to how well they convert the spoken words in a meeting to text.

The best way to find the right Fathom alternative from this list is to test them all and check which one fits your workflow needs. But if you don't have time to test all of them, the Notta AI transcription tool might look like a great choice. You can try out Notta's free plan for a few weeks and see how it can help you!
